The actress and model Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her husband Abhishek Bachchan – had a baby girl this week. Every news outlet in India is filled with the story as if they are the royal couple and have just given birth to a princess.

Brave natural birth
Another aspect of the birth of the baby in Bachchan family is natural delivery of the child. Times of India reports that natural child birth by the 38-year-old former Miss World is considered to be a brave attempt – setting an example that old age mothers don’t need to opt for Caesarean section. In Mumbai every fourth woman chooses C-section as a mode of delivery to escape labor pain and complications. For older mothers, more than half of the mothers (60%) older than 35 don’t even consider natural birth.
Doctors say that a natural delivery is beneficial for the child by helping in gaining better immunity and well prepared for the outside world. There are high hopes that the courage of Aishwarya will help people in gaining confidence and desire to opt for natural childbirth, whenever it is possible.
