An Indian wrestler Dara Singh started acting in 1952 and was the first sportsman to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha. 6 feet 2 inch tall Dara Singh is known for his action roles in movies.

He has also worked as Hindi and Punjabi film producer, director and writer in his career. He is best known as the Hanuman in the television series based on the Hindu epic, Ramayan.
Born on November 19, 1928, Dara Singh was 83 when he died on July 12, 2012. He was admitted in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on July 7, 2012 following a cardiac arrest. He was released from hospital on July 11 on his family’s request. He died the following day, on July 12, 2012 in his home in Mumbai.
